Kvantni suicid: posredni dokaz besmrtnosti?

A man sits before a gun, which is pointed at his head. This is no ordinary gun; it’s rigged to a machine that measures the spin of a quantum particle. Each time the trigger is pulled, the machine measures the spin of the quantum particle – the quark – depending on the measurement, the gun will either fire, or it won’t. If the particle is measured as spinning in a clockwise motion, the gun will fire, if it is counterclockwise, it won’t fire. There is only one click, nervously the man pulls the trigger. The gun clicks, he pulls the trigger again, it clicks again. He tries a few more times, again and again, all the way to eternity.

Although the gun is properly loaded and functioning properly, it will never fire, no matter how many times he pulls the trigger, this way, the man has gained immortality. Let’s go back in time to the beginning of the experiment. The man pulls the trigger for the very first time and the particle spins counterclockwise, the gun fires and the man is dead. But wait, the man already pulled the trigger an infinite number of times before we restarted the experiment, how can he be dead. The man is thought to be both alive and dead. Each time he pulls the trigger, another universe is created. Thus he is in both states combined.

Postoji jedna zaista fascinantna no istovremeno veoma moralno i etički problematična ideja u naučnim krugovima XX i XXI veka, ideja koja kaže dâ potencijalno, pod određenim uslovima, postoje višestruke verzije Vas, vašeg bića, te svakoga od nas ponaosob. Svih nas – od kojih su neke više, neke manje, dok su one treće skoro u potpunosti identična vama. Tek s neznatnim razlikama na mestima koja ne bi ni primetili… Naime, reč je o gotovo beskrajnom broju varijacija svih mogućih iteracija vas koje, svaka za sebe u svom univerzumu, donose njima karakteristične odluke i koje se ne moraju nužno ticati, niti uticati na vas u ovome svetu/svemiru u kojem sada čitate ovaj tekst (mada, čitate ga i u relativno bliskim ovome, samo s većim brojem slovnih grešaka i koječega sličnog ili drugačijeg…). Jer, na posletku, vi ste samo jedna od verzija vas, u samo jednom od univerzuma u beskrajnoj supi multiverzuma.

Ili možda jednom beskrajnom (!?) univerzumu.

Survey of Quantum Suicide or Quantum Immortality
Abstract: In quantum mechanics, quantum suicide is a thought experiment, originally published independently by Hans Moravec in 1987 and Bruno Marchal in 1988, and independently developed further by Max Tegmark in 1998. It attempts to distinguish between the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics and the Everett many-worlds interpretation by means of a variation of the Schrödinger’s cat thought experiment, from the cat’s point of view. Quantum immortality refers to the subjective experience of surviving quantum suicide regardless of the odds. The paper is a survey of the experiment of quantum suicide.

Upravo ovoj ideji, a iz razloga koji će vam ubrzo postati [valjda] jasniji, prilazimo i kao teoretskom modelu koji potencijalno može doprineti razumevanju te svojevrsn ideje koja propagira stanje postojanja najbolje opisano kao kvantna besmrtnost, a koja svakako veoma polarizuje naučne umove po tome da li joj pozitivno prilaze ili ne. Posebno što jedan od načina potencijalnog dokazivanja iste vodi jedino kroz jednu krajnje oštru meru – samoubistvo. Ipak jedan od njenih zastupnika i neko ko je veoma uticao na popularizaciju ovakvog pristupa razmišljanju na ovu temu u naučnim krugovima svakako jeste Maks Tegmark (Max Erik Tegmark), švedsko-američki fizičar, naučnik i autor. Načnimo sada dublje ovaj bizarni misaoni eksperiment, ne bi li nam stvari polako postale jasnije. Ili manje jasne…

Zato: zamislimo da igramo svojevrsni kvantni ruski rulet, koji je baš i nalik običnom ruskom ruletu ali s tom razlikom da njime rukovode principi kvante mehanike:
